But there are plenty of articles that will tell you that, and they will show you how to use Facebook to invite people to events.

If that's where you are, Google the topic. You will be inundated with great ideas.

In this article, I want to dive one level deeper. I want to show you how to create explosive growth in your event attendance.

Here's another topic you need under your belt to make this idea work. That topic is conversion. Conversion is a term that refers to how many positive responses to your offer or invitation gets. In this case, if you invite 100 and 3 say, "Yes," then your conversion is 3%. Naturally, you want to improve conversion. Depending on your event, this might be any number of things, and again, that is not my topic here.

But let's say you've done everything right. Your event is well planned. You've used a Facebook Event to invite people. and you've invited all 250 of your friends that are potentially interested. At 3% that's 7 and a half people. What can you do to improve on that number dramatically? Get more friends? Start randomly friending strangers? Not a good plan. Facebook ads may help, but here's an idea that will not cost you a dime.

Try this. Next time you get an invitation, even if you can't make the event, rather than just turning it down flat - and especially if the "host" or person who invited you is a networking partner, contact them with a message similar to this one.

                  Unable to display content.
"Hi Judy. Rick here. Say, I got your event invite. Thanks so much for thinking of me. Say, unfortunately, I am not going to be able to make it. But it sounds like a great event, and I think a lot of my FB friends might also find it interesting, so I was thinking of responding with a maybe or a yes just so I can invite them. This is a PUBLIC event, right?" Perhaps you even post the event on your wall or your fan page, if appropriate.

(In case you are not familiar with Facebook Events, there are PUBLIC events and PRIVATE events. These are selections the event author makes when putting the even together on Facebook. If the event author allows it, guest and potential guest (yes's and maybe's) can also invite people. You see where I'm going, right?)

Wow, are you kidding? Who would not jump to get more invitees? So you invite any friends you have that might find this event interesting. Naturally, consider things like interests, age, and geography so you are not inviting women basket weavers from Nome, Alaska to an all-guy alligator wrestling event in Boca Raton, Florida.

Now it's your turn to have an event. What do you do? You call on everyone you favored to return the favor and invite their friends to your event. Make sure you allow guests to invite when you create your event. Practice this with planning and purpose and your events will soar. Soon you will amass an army of people eager to invite their friends to your events becasue you did the same for them.

Copyright by Rick Allen and 30fold, Inc.

If you own a business, neglecting this task could be cyber suicide

This common business mistake is robbing you blind!

Grab your Google Local Business Listing right now! Not sure what this is? Think of it as the online version of a yellow pages ad. Sure, there are many online business directories out there, but none as big or searched as Google at this current time. For years now, on the net, local businesses have suffered because a butcher shop in a tiny backwater Vermont town was competing for top Google billing with a butcher shop in New Your City, L.A. or even Hong Kong. Not any more.

Note that, while this is directed to business owners, the same thing applies to Churches, ministries, organizations, charities, and schools - especially those that depend heavily on local enrollment such as charter schools.

Today Google has adjusted the searches to give you local results first. You see, when you perform a search, based on something called your "IP Address", Google can tell generally where you are. This allows them to deliver what is called geo-targeted ads and messages. It also allows them to deliver search results that are area specific.

What this means to merchants and businesses is very powerful. It means that, if you are a local business, you no longer need to pay to be number one on the planet, just number one in your neighborhood.

Something else Google has done is to auto-generate a bunch of web pages based on business listings from a variety of sources. Even if you do not know it, you may already have a Google generated web page for your business. This is the part that is very much like a yellow pages ad. Best of all, it is totally free.

So, if you have not done so you should stop right now and go to Google and see if there is such a page generated for your business. If there is, you should claim your listing if you have not yet done so. There should be a link on the page where you can first prove you really own the or control the business, then you can modify it with things like hours, coupons, keywords, and more.

If there is no Google listing for your business yet, no worries. You can create one by going to http://www.google.com/local/add.

Here's something else this will do for you. If you go to Google Maps and look up a business you will see a few numbered tear drops, and a bunch of dots. Those dots are unclaimed business listings on Google. That's free advertising going down the drain. So, how about your business? Are you just a dot on the Google map of business life?

Don't wait another minute to take care of this little task. It can make your phone and your cash register ring. And please, be sure to pass this blog post on to your business owner friends. It takes just a few minutes to do this. You need not be a web guru or an SEO specialist to perform this very powerful maneuver.

Another thing you should do - something very easy to do - is to get a free one year listing on GoSmallBiz Directory. This is a directory set up my former Football Hall of Fame great, Fran Tarkenton. All it takes is a phone call. If you own a business in the United States or Canada simply give Rick Allen a call at 480-221-6792 and tell him you want to get your business listed. He will conduct a brief interview and get you listed, or he will connect you with someone in your area who can help you on a local basis.
Health-care Bill - Hazardous to your health

The old saying goes, insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. The political corollary would be electing the same people over and over and expecting different results.

A friend of mine, Ron Mueller, who provides tax advice to home based business owners, wrote about one more surprise buried in the Obama Health Care bill. Did you know that the bill requires you to provide a 1099 to everyone you pay over $600 to in business? Now, that might seem logical enough on the surface and at first brush. But think about the implication.

Did you buy more than $600 in office supplies?

Did you buy over $600 in gas? Did you think to keep track by gas station?

To who at Southwest, United, and American Airlines do you send these 1099's?

Just start thinking about all those expenses from all those companies and multiply it by the number of forms that must be filed and mailed. Is this a diabolical plan to bail out the post office? What ever happened to the paperwork reduction act?

What in the thunder is this doing in a "health care bill"? Is there even a thread of a connection?

What else lurks in the ominous bill? Does the Shadow even know? Probably not.

It is likely that at the very least a bill to void this portion of the health care bill. But in this economy, is this what we need to be paying for? Create a huge bill encompassing everything under the sun, force it through, then spend months and years trying to undo the damage?

Let's make sure we hold our elected leaders accountable.

Let's also not pay a dime more in taxes than required by law. Owning a home based business is just one way to help reduce your personal tax burden. If you own a home based business, but you are not sure you are maximizing your home-based business deductions, check out <a href="http://cuttaxes.30fold.com.
">cuttaxes.30fold.com.

Creating an event is an easy process. Simply fill out a form. Currently (I say currently, because Facebook changes on a daily basis), go to your profile. From there you will see several tabs. One of them should say EVENTS. When you go to the EVENTS tab there should be a button near the top right that will allow you to create an event.

It will then allow you to invite your friends to the event if you wish. This will actually place an event in their profile with an option for them to RSVP. As the event creator you will be able to see who has responded.

If you are like me, you also organize your friends by using LISTS. While editing friends you can put your friends in lists. These come in handy, especially if you have lots of friends. I suggest you create an ALL or EVERYONE list right off the bat. I'll explain why another time. But as you add friends, simply add everyone to your everyone list, and any other lists that are appropriate to your needs.

Now, having a LIST, you can easily invite that entire LIST. The caveat I am highlighting here though is to simply remember, creating the event also creates an automatic post on your wall about the event. That means anyone who gets your posts in their feed may see it. So if you did not intend for everyone to see it, simply visit your own wall and remove the post. It's safe. The event will still be in tact. Consider it like house keeping.

Using Facebook successfully can be tricky sometimes, because it is a complex environment, and how each part interplays is not always immediately evident. In my case I created an event and invited people from my home state. But soon I was getting comments form people 2500 miles away that they were not going to make it -- like "duh". I had missed the fact that they were just seeing my news feed. I deleted the post, problem solved.

Copyright by Rick Allen and 30fold, Inc.

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do - A Test of Character

The Way Back Machine

Early 60's. Niel Sedaka was the rage. "Coma, coma, down dubee du down, down, breaking up is hard to do." Have you ever noticed, there's a song somewhere for every situation? Sometimes it is sadly true, sometimes it's a way to make light of the situation so you can move on. In some cases, maybe both.

Relationships come and go

As we go through our lives we form friendships, and some of those friendships turn serious, like a marriage or a business partnership. Now, make no mistake, I do not put those two on the same level, though there are many parallels that can be drawn, and some, but not all of the rules that apply to one also apply to the other. But today, I am focusing on business relationships, and specifically, those that, for one reason or another, don't survive. Sometimes we find ourselves as direct participants, and more often we are the innocent bystanders -- collateral damage.

As in all phases of our lives, how we conduct ourselves is a key element of life, regardless of if we are directly, or indirectly involved. (You guessed it. There's a song for that. "You can't control the wind, but you can adjust the sail." Ricky Scaggs) And sometimes, we need a reminder - a clarion - to get our attention and help us refocus and remember our core values, and how we should move on from where we are.

Party of the first part

When it happens to us, when we are personally involved in the breakup, it can be especially difficult to do this refocusing. Often, it is because we have been wronged by the other party - or at least we think we have been. In either case, moving on can be difficult, especially if legal action ensues. This will constantly and easily draw our attention back to the breakup, regardless of efforts to move on. And sometimes our ability to move on, and the direction we go will be determined by the outcome of the legal action. So it really does demand that we focus on it.

Getting good advice

An ancient text recommends "Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war." Surround yourself with people who will give you good, sound, principled advice, and will help keep you focused on what it important, and what is noble and right. This may include others close to you - but you need someone without emotional attachment as well. Just having someone who will commiserate is not what you need here. It may be what you want, what will feel good, but it is not what you need. In business, if you have not done so already, choose strategic business advisers - people with experience that you can talk to. And make sure they are not your "yes" men. Again, just agreement is not what you need. Pardon the expression, but if you need a butt kicking, you need someone willing and able to give it to you.

It is also a very good idea to have legal counsel standing by. Now, especially for small businesses you might be thinking, wow, I certainly can't afford to pay an attorney just to ask a question. If I am going to start paying $2-300 an hour, it's got to be pretty serious. But getting counsel early can save you a world of hurt and a ton of money down the road. The most cost effective way to do that is through a pre-paid legal plan . There you will pay a low monthly fee, like insurance, and the attorneys will then be there when you need them to answer your questions or give advice. Sometimes you need logical or business advice, and sometimes you need legal advice. The two are not the same. And if you use it correctly - call early, call often, then you will find the value of such a plan will be significantly more than your investment.

Collateral damage

Now let's address another situation where you are not directly involved, but you were just friends or business associates with one or more of the parties that are now, perhaps not so peacefully, parting. There you are, caught in the middle (gee, another musical reference - I am telling you, they are everywhere). There are many questions one must answer here, especially when the breakup is less than amicable. Just like in a divorce, two people you were friends with are now sworn enemies. Who do you choose, him, or her? Do you have to choose? After all, on a very different level, and for very different reasons, you liked both. Often, this is, as the British would say, a sticky wicket, with no easy or clear answers. But there are at least sign posts along this dusty desert trail that you can rely on.

The most important thing to remember is, as you go through your life, professional as well as personal, you want to surround yourself with people you aspire to be like. It has been said, you are the average of the five people you hang out with most. This is typically true of income, character, and general success.

The Great Teacher said, a "tree is known by its fruit." With that, what is the fruit of the the people involved in the breakup. Are they slinging mud, trying to move on, or suffering a major breakdown? Whatever actions you see them taking, those actions speak to that individual's character. Nothing reveals someone's character as does tough times. Look around us in this difficult economic climate, and look at the people, who you would have thought would never do something underhanded, acting totally out of character - well, obviously, not totally out of character. It was just hidden before.

No one wants to go through such a time, but think of it this way. It will reveal, without a doubt, who your real friends are, so be grateful. Sometimes one party, and sometimes both, will begin slinging mud at the other, trying to denigrate the other. Now, admittedly, they may be reacting based on emotion. In their defense one may judge, "Well, they were hurt. How would you react if it were you?" And that may be true, but equally true is that they have at a minimum proven their volatility, and like a shaken vial of nitroglycerin, you don't want to be around when it explodes. When undisturbed, everything may seem fine. There is no apparent danger. But this individual has just proven they are unstable, uncontrolled. Alluding back to an ancient text again, "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls." They are a danger to you, and a detriment to themselves.

The coup d'etat

Of all the things one does, probably the most revealing act of bad character is when that person stops hurling accusations, turns to you with a smile, and says, "If you are my friend," or, "If you love me," and then proceeds to define what you will do, making this the test of friendship and love. Like it or not, love them or not, they have already turned their vengeance on you ... with a smile. They have revealed that they are manipulative, and that they are actively manipulating you at that moment. It now does not mater if everything they are saying is gospel truth from the mouth of the Almighty Himself. Stop. Ask yourself, is that OK? Is the value of their approval, love, or friendship, real or perceived, so great so as to overcome the wrong they are hoisting upon you at that moment? (Didn't I warn you there were strong parallels to marriage?)

Prove all things

Going beyond the personalities involved, sometimes you have to try and adjudicate facts and situations. What was said above holds true, even if all the mud being slung is verifiable fact. But sometimes you may have to figure out if the facts are correct. You have to put on your detective hat. Sometimes, you will simply never get to the bottom, but you can again use signposts to get as close as possible.

Remember the adage, "a half truth is a whole lie". Proclaiming something, even showing evidence that something is true and verifiable, does not mean it is the whole truth, or that it is everything one needs to know to make a fair and informed judgment. A decision made with only partial information is rarely good, and never optimal. There are times we must make the best decision we can with the information we have, but when additional information is at our disposal, when we can go to the other party and get the other side of the story, but we don't ... we are guaranteeing a sub-optimal outcome, and probably making a poor, if not a stupid decision.

Also, remember that not everything, even though true, is material. That's why a judge will often trow out a piece of evidence. It may be true. It may influence our thinking one way or the other. But is it material? That is, does it directly impact the situation you are trying to judge? If not, you should do like the judge and throw it out.

Is the evidence tainted? What can taint facts you are being asked to judge? Do you have both sides of the story? Do you have verifiable, corroborating testimony or evidence?

Innocent parties do not take part in spontaneous public crucifixions or lynchings. Guilty parties can not bide the time to allow the truth to come to light, knowing that the truth, even if it is on their side, will not achieve their real purpose, which is usually vengeance, not justice.

Wow, not easy, is it? And the fact is, sometimes, you will never be able to gather or verify everything well enough. But the actions of the people involved are flashing red lights, revealing their character, and are always your best indicators or signposts of the direction you should go. Sadly, it often means you must part company with someone you liked well, someone you had hoped might be a catalyst of your own success, or someone who has a high degree of influence. Just be thankful their character was revealed before they were able to be in a position to destroy you along with the target of their rage, and be wary that, in the act of backing away, you may also become their target.

I hope this advice leads you to a better marriage , better personal relationships, and better business relationships, and that those relationships do not become the basis for yet another sad country song.
Some may be written, while others are audios, or even videos. In this series I will show you a couple of handy tools that will help you get audio and video testimonials on your website or Facebook Fan Page quickly and easily. For either process there are three steps.

First, you have to capture the audio or video

Second, you may need to edit the file

Finally, you need to publish your file

Let's take it a step at a time, and let's just look at audio for now. We will touch on video, then we'll cover it in detail in another post.

If you are trying to do this all on your own without technical expertise, stick with audio, because it's just so easy, relatively speaking. So, let me start by recommending a tool I've relied on for years. It is extremely versatile, and you can actually be up and running within 30 minutes. The tool is called AudioAcrobat . I recommend AudioAcrobat for a host of reasons, and for the application we are talking about here - that is, getting customer testimonials on your website, it makes things super-easy.

For example, capturing those testimonials is as easy as having your customers make a call and leave what amounts to a voice mail message. Honest. With AudioAcrobat your customer calls a special phone number you give them (provided to you in your AudioAcrobat back office), record their testimony, and hang up. During their session (their phone call) they are able to listen to a playback, stop, re-record, or abandon their session without saving. AudioAcrobat then notifies you, and within a few minutes, assuming you accept their recording as is, you can publish it to your website.

Here, try it out now. Pick up your phone and dial (512) 827-0505. When prompted for a pin, dial 5067#. I'll wait...

Is that easy? Told you.

Now, how about publishing? Your AudioAcrobat back office gives you a publishing tool which provides the HTML code which you can simply copy and paste into your blog, your website, your Facebook Fan Page, or an email message. Here's a sample using the same practice line.

<radeditorformatted_1>

<radeditorformatted_2> Get a 30 day free trial of AudioAcrobat!
The sample message above was recorded from a cell phone using the same practice line you just tried. So use our affiliate link, AudioAcrobat, and give 30 days. AudioAcrobat will provide free training and support, and you will have audio and video messages on your site in no time.

If you would like professional voice service to help you write and record your opening messages call 602-903-5797 and ask for "voice message services".

I said we would touch on video, then go into detail. So here we go. Video is slightly more complicated. Audio can be as well. For example, there may be cases where you want something more sophisticated. Perhaps you want to download the testimonials, and edit them, enhance them, put background music behind them, etc. In the case of video though, you have to have an external recording device, and naturally, your customer can't just make a phone call. But that does not mean it has to be difficult. In a latter post we will pick up the discussion right here.
Finally, at least a hint of good news. That is, if you are starting a home based business. According to my tax guy, Ron Mueller, the IRS will now allow you to deduct start up expenses up to $20 G's. That's four times the old amount. Of course, it does not help that the opportunities from 30fold will not get you close to that big of an expense, but, hey, you need more staples and paper clips, right? Let me give you the whole story according to Ron. I am quoting now ...

You probably already know (if you have read "Home Business Tax Savings Made Easy!" ) that new business "Start-Up Costs" are tax-deductible up to $5,000.

"Start-Up Costs" are those expenses you need to incur, just to get ready to be in business. Expenses incurred before you are really "open for business" with a product or service to sell.

That $5,000 limitation is now increased to $20,000!

Most home-based businesses don't require even $5,000 to get up and running, but if you are starting one that does require bigger expenditures up-front, this is great news to you.

DO YOU KNOW THE "5 BIGGEST" OF ALL HOME-BUSINESS TAX DEDUCTIONS?

I do 45-minute free webcast briefings on that subject each month.

I recommend you visit Ron's site, and sign up for some of his free webinars, and order his book, Home Based Business Tax Savings Made Easy. And to get information on the best home based business - the one that fits the model Robert Kiyosaki calls "The Business of the 21st Century", visit here - http://www.30foldbenefits.com . Well, certainly, we don't want to fall into a snare. Yet, we see millions of people running around trying to get rich. Some look for ways to earn it, some look for ways to get it without working such as gaming and lotteries, and some simply try to take what others have earned.

There's an interesting article that appeared on MSN.com. A friend pointed it out to me. You can read the whole thing here: articles.moneycentral.msn.com/RetirementandWills/EscapeTheRatRace/will-you-get-rich-someday.aspx. It did a good job in briefly bringing up important questions such as, what is rich, and how does one become rich?

According to the article, "One-fifth of Americans believe that starting a business is the most likely way to get rich today.

History supports that belief. Most self-made millionaires are small-business owners, says Greg McBride, Bankrate.com's senior financial analyst."

On the question of how much makes you rich the article said, "Choosing a high-paying job or career comes in second (19%) as the most likely path to getting rich.

Unfortunately for most people, having a high-paying job is the ticket to an expensive lifestyle and nothing more lasting, says Todd Tresidder, a financial coach at FinancialMentor and self-made millionaire."

But back to that important Biblical warning - where does that fit in for a Christian who is trying to get ahead, or perhaps just trying to get out of a hole?

Well, primarily, the Bible is not even trying to deal with the questions of how much money makes you wealthy. It is trying to deal with an individual's attitude toward money and wealth. You see, the fact is, it takes money to live. And everything we do, good or bad, takes money. So simply the fact or act of getting money is really not under consideration. If it were, then what would you do with those passages that say, "if a man does not work then neither shall he eat?" or, what would you do with the command to give to others. If you are making just the bare minimum to survive, you can't fill a Biblical command! So you have to be making at least a little more than you need.

There are over 800 verses in scripture that deal with money, its nature, and our relationship with money. It is important, if we wish to obey scripture, to become familiar with all of them, and not obey one or two verses to the exclusion of all the others.

How important is this? Well, consider that there are some key Bible doctrines that are established with a single verse. In fact, one core Christian doctrine - the trinity - is only clearly and definitively stated in one verse - a verse that happens to be one of the most hotly contested verses in scripture. So if God gave us 800 verses to establish our relationship with wealth, do you get the impression I do - that He felt it important that we get the message?

So, is it a sin to want or work for wealth? Well, that really depends. Why do you want the wealth? Are you working for wealth and leaving out other things scripture commands? Would you give up that wealth if necessary to obey God? Or, are you willing to let your stand for Christ suffer in order to obtain and maintain wealth? What of the person who gets wealth and then gives it away in order to fund good and godly projects? Wealth for wealth's sake really is vanity. It really does take wings and fly away. It is likely that someone else will end up enjoying what we worked so hard to obtain in that circumstance. But if you goal and aim is to glorify God with the wealth He blesses you with, who could possibly take your reward?

The important thing is to closely examine your "why". Why do you want more money? Why do you want to be wealthy? Make sure you have a why that passes Biblical standards. Then make sure you have a vehicle (means to obtain wealth) that also passes Biblical standards. Finally, once you have it, do not put your hope and faith in it, rather, keep your hope and faith in Him who provided it.

Copyright by Rick Allen and 30fold, Inc.

Identity Theft Misconceptions

The sad fact about identity theft is this. You can't prevent it. You can try. You can reduce your risk. You can take measures that reduce the chance you will become a victim. But you can not totally prevent it. That is quite logical. It's like the lock on your front door. It will slow thieves down. But if someone is determined to get in, they will.Recently I read an article that made itself out to be an identity theft authority, comparing different types of identity theft products. Not too surprisingly, it put the very best product at the end. The comment was "This product does not prevent identity theft, it only restores your identity once it is stolen." The obvious omission was that no identity theft product can prevent your identity from being stolen. So if this product can restore your identity there is no room for the word "only". The ability to fully restore your identity to pre-theft status should be your number one criteria in selecting for a product. The next thing many products like to mention is their million dollar guarantees. You need to read those very closely. Better yet, have an attorney read them. No attorney? You should have one. And you can - yes, you can afford an attorney. What you will find is that the chances those guarantees will ever pay off are close to nonexistent. It is interesting that we hear about identity theft in the news all the time. We see advertising for protection products on the side of every bus. And you can't pick up a newspaper or magazine without seeing articles and advertising about protection products. But have you ever noticed that they do not cover the full range of identity theft scenarios? Think about this.

Financial identity theft is less than a quarter of all identity theft problems

There are five major types of identity theft (depending on how you slice the pie)

Medical identity theft can be more than just annoying. It can be fatal.

If someone is employed under your social security number it is up to you to prove to the IRS that you did not earn that income. Until you do, they consider you legally liable to pay the taxes.

Often, you will need the services of an attorney due to identity theft. Does your plan include the services of a top attorney?

Did you know that today children are at higher risk of identity theft than their parents? Unfortunately that is partly due to the fact that parents will use their children's identity when their own is no long viable. But additionally, identity thieves love children's identities because they know it will be years before anyone follows up on them. To the identity thief it's comparable to an automaker buying a roll of steel that never runs out. There is but one plan that delivers on all these important points and covers all the bases. To own all this protection is both affordable and wise. You need the Pre-Paid Legal Life Events Legal Plan and the Identity Theft Shield and Legal Shield Rider.Your good name, and the good name of your family members is worth it.

Copyright by Rick Allen and 30fold, Inc.

Making Better Decisions

Decisions. We make them every day. We decide what to wear, what to have for breakfast, what to work on next, which route to take to work. And some days we feel we should have decided to not get out of bed. Often, we make decisions without even thinking much. A lot of our decision making is on autopilot. That's not all bad, because, honestly, if we labored over every decision of life we'd never get anything done. Those autopilot decisions are typically guided by our past experiences, as well as our own prejudices (and yes, we all have them), by our preconceived notions about how the world works, and our personal proclivities.

Our decisions, both the autopilot ones as well as the ones we make consciously, guide us through life, and are ultimately the thing that makes us end up where we are. Our "fate," if you will, is not so much something predetermined by outside forces in most cases, but by an accumulation of each tiny decision we make. The fact is, we would almost never imagine the outcome based on each of those individual decisions, but they fit together into the jigsaw puzzle that is our life.

So, it stands to reason, if we make better decisions, we can have a better outcome, a better life. Throughout history philosophers and writers of holy scripture have supported this idea. There is an idea around today that, in order to have our best life we need to follow our heart. But actually, our heart can easily lead us astray. It can be easily deceived, and it is itself a deceiver according to Jeremiah 17:9. That is not to say we should never listen to our heart, but it should never be the sole guide. Listen to the words of the world's wisest man, King Solomon. In Proverbs 23:19 he said, "Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way." But an unguided heart can easily lead us into some wrong and hurtful paths.

In order to get on the better road - to begin making better decisions, we need to work both on the autopilot decisions - sometimes called habits, as well as the conscious ones. There are countless self-improvement gurus out there talking about change and how you can be a different person, the person you would rather be, by changing those unconscious decisions - the little ones made every few seconds. There are important keys to those changes.

4 Easy Steps to Better Decision Making and a Better Life

You must begin with a conscious decision to change the unconscious decisions

You must commit to a process of change. That is, you can't change everything overnight. Begin with one or two small changes. Commit to them. Work on your new habits daily till they become routine - till they become your new habit. Rinse well and repeat.

Prioritize the changes you wish to make. It's OK to get some help here. It may be difficult for you to judge what areas you need to improve first, or most. But be ready to take a little criticism. Remember the words of Solomon again. "Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful." (Proverbs 27:6)

What happens if you reach a point of failure or seeming impasse? Remember, we said commit to the process. There is only one course of action. Get up, dust yourself off and begin again. That Solomon ... how did he know all this stuff. It's like he had a hot line from God or something, huh? He said, "For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again:" (Proverbs 24:16). For those of you with mathematical brains, just think of your failed attempts as the variable X. So the formula for success is easy.
x + 1.

So, that takes care of one type of decision - the unconscious or autopilot decision. But we also make conscious decisions regularly as well. Or, at least we should be doing so. Leaving the big things in life totally to "fate" - "casting our fate to the wind", well we all know a few people who did that and came out OK or even better than OK, but we unwittingly also know hundreds who did so and, well, their outcome is not so good.

You guessed it. We are going to check in again with Solomon. Proverbs 20:18 says, "Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war." Now, accept, if you will, that the war you are making is simply living each day. You are waging your own private "War on Poverty". You do want to remember the TMI principle (To Much Information). That is, we don't need to share every intimate detail of our life with everyone around us. But for the big decisions it is wise to get input from others. For some that may be your spouse, your parents, your siblings, a pastor or trusted friend. But sometimes, in fact, much more often than you might think, for both business and personal decisions, you should contact an attorney.

I can hear you ... "yeah, right. Like I can afford an attorney." The fact is, yes, you probably can, if you do it right. No, you don't have to live next to one or play golf with one. People make the mistake everyday of not consulting an attorney on hundreds of things because they are used to the old way of paying for them. But there's a company out there who, for the last 37 years, has been faithfully chipping away, and changing our old paradigms of how we pay for legal services.

What if you could pay for them just like you prepare in life for things like auto accidents, getting sick, or even dying. We are quite used to paying for those things as we go. My goodness, we even pay each month in case we drop our cell phones in a urinal while on an important conference call, right? Well, don't we? Prepaying for legal life events just makes sense, especially when you realize everything this company offers for their very affordable monthly fee. So whether you need help with decisions of life in general, or perhaps you need help making a business decision, having access to wise advice can make all the difference. You know wealthy people use attorneys all the time - not because they are in trouble, but to stay out of trouble and so that they can make wise, well informed decisions. Making good decisions makes good cents. It is amazing how liberating it is when faced with even the smallest of decisions that have any legal or financial ramifications, you can simply pick up the phone and speak to a top attorney in your state (or the state you are having the issue in) without even thinking about a bill.

Start making better decisions right now. Really, this is a no-brainer.

Share

Copyright by Rick Allen and 30fold, Inc.

Who ya gonna call?

Can you pick up the phone and call an attorney without worrying about the bill?

As I write I realize we are living in the most litigious society in history. Jokingly, friends refer the the "USA" as "U Sue Anybody". The fact is, our need for those in the legal profession - attorneys, has increased dramatically, while our ability to access the legal system has decreased. Even lawyers can't afford lawyers these days. Whether it be for business or personal reasons, the ability to get the advice of an attorney on any legal matter is, for most, a dream, not a reality. Yet, in most cases having the availability of an attorney to discuss these matters with can often be life-changing in its outcome.

Tragically, in North America it seams we are at a legal impasse. We need more and more what we can afford less and less. But, thank goodness, there is a solution. Believe it or not, there is a company that has been changing the way we access the legal system for over 37 years. At first, people laughed at the concept - sort of like they did with the telephone, then the cell phone. But today the ideas and concepts are becoming so necessary, and so much more self evident, that before long people will wonder how the legal system ever operated any other way.

The unique position this company holds in the industry is augmented by two things in the marketplace. First, the company has been around and doing this for years. It is not a flash in the pan or a fly-by-night operation. They are well respected and well documented by third parties, They have a track record. They have done an excellent job to date, and have millions of satisfied clients. But from a marketplace perspective, as well as they have done, they have only scratched the surface.

What this means for the individual or business owners is that there is a product that can greatly benefit them from a well established and trusted company. For the entrepreneurial spirit, it means there is a market for something everyone needs, almost no one has, and a company they can be aligned with that is uniquely positioned to satisfy that market.

So, are you ready to learn more about this unique company, unique service, and unique opportunity? Are you prepared to invest a few short minutes to be able to say with the wealthy, "let me check with my attorney?" Are you ready to do as the wealthy do, and have all your contracts and legal questions completely vetted by an attorney who specializes in the appropriate area of law before making your next move, signing your next contract, or making that big purchase? If so, the link that follows is the link that may be key to your future legal and perhaps even financial well being.

To learn more go to

http://gcp.30fold.com

This is especially important to the individual Christian and Christian business person. Why? Well, face it. As Christians we are doubly responsible to do those things that are legal and above reproach, are we not? And unfortunately, in our society today, we also face some unique challenges as a direct result of our faith. And having the advice and support of an attorney can be a strategic advantage in our personal and our business lives. Those in positions of personal contact with people, such as counselors, teachers, and pastors are also at unique risk for frivolous lawsuits. Scripture itself recommends seeking wise counsel.

To learn more go to

http://gcp.30fold.com

Share

Copyright by Rick Allen and 30fold, Inc.

Opportunity has never knocked this loudly before

30fold has a whole new income stream for people like you who are tired of trading hours for dollars and getting nowhere. We have planned some webinars so you can fit one (or more) into your busy schedule.

So, what's this new income stream all about, anyway? Well, let's begin with a fundamental understanding of the power of social and viral networking. <<-- Click the link for your free education. Do not continue until you have watched the linked video. Note, you may want to play it with your finger on the pause button so you don't miss anything!

OK, now, with that in your hip pocket...

Now imagine that no one else carries a product like it anywhere.

Of course, you would want it to be from a strong company, right? How about a 30+year history with over 16 years of continuous growth?

You'd need a powerful compensation program with the ability to earn $500+ a month part time, and the ability to earn real adult money for the really serious people - like, replace my job kind of income.

How are we doing so far? Can we add a dash of "simple to do"?

Now that you've begun to imagine your way into the "yeah, right, like that's going to happen" zone, we may as well keep going so ...

What if it was connected to a ready to run FREE viral social networking tool thingy designed to create a steady stream of leads for you (and an additional income stream to boot) - literally thousands of dollars worth of advertising for your new business - and, can we make that advertising at no cost to you?

Wow, you sure can dream big! Well, sign yourself up for one of the upcoming webinars - the sooner the better - and pinch yourself because you really will think you are dreaming. It's that good.

"Rick, can I get it at a special, limited time, ridiculously huge discount or something?"

You sure are asking a lot ...OK, done. BIG discount. Now register so you can get on board, experience viral business growth, and change your family legacy!

Pick your date, or register for all of them so you can stay flexible.

"Now, I don't recommend writing hot checks, but I wrote a hot check 13 years ago to get started in this business. My first paycheck arrived before they processed my hot check, which more than covered the start up fee. Today I earn over $300,000 a year- in residual income alone." L. Smith, Glendale,AZ

"I was living paycheck to paycheck - well, almost. I got started just to pay my car note, but within a matter of months I replaced my full time income." S. Alvarez, Phoenix, AZ

"When I got started in this business you actually had to work. Today, there are so many tools, if you can hand out a magazine or DVD, you can be successful." M. Dorsey, Atlanta, GA

"The growth of this company has been nothing short of phenomenal, but it is nothing compared to what is about to happen through this new viral, social networking tool. NOW is the right time to get in." H. Branch, Tempe, AZ

Don't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to get in on a ground floor opportunity with a strong seasoned business. It starts by signing up for the webinar, getting the information you need to make a decision, and then following through.

So let's take the paradigm a little further, and look at it form the process angle. The fact is, you can actually flunk vision-101, and still succeed if you have good processes. So if you are one of those who perhaps is not the great visionary, perhaps you are one of those that has a very hard time imagining what the future can be, if you have, follow, measure, adjust, and persist in the application of good processes, you can land in the dream world you could not previously imagine.

I once told a group that a leader was someone who could paint a picture of what can be on the hearts of those who can make it happen. I still believe that is a very good definition, but I don't think it is necessarily the only valid definition. I think there are plenty of leaders out there who could not inspire a fire to burn, yet they lead every day by setting a great example of applying good processes.

Don't get me wrong. Inspiration has its place. I would not for a moment diminish how important it is to have those charismatic leaders who can inspire us to greater heights, who can challenge us beyond our normal capacities, who can convince us to reach for the stars even when they hidden behind cloudy skies. But it would be an equal injustice to assume that charismatic inspiration was the only form of leadership. Consider the New Testament passages that talk about different offices and talents within the church. Are all pastors? Is everyone called to teach? Think of the simple, down to earth example "If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?" (I Corinthians 12:17)

So, what is the point? Simply this. As we consider leadership skills in others, or in ourselves, it is good to remember that there are different kinds of leadership, and that each of us has the capacity to succeed even if we don't measure up to those who are more generally looked to as leaders because of their charisma. For everyone of those, it takes hundreds who simply buckle down, roll up their sleeves, and go to work.

So if you are striving for success and it seems to have eluded you thus far, and if you have worn off the sheen of all those inspirational CD's, maybe it is time to take a closer look at your processes. Because everyone of those charismatic leaders who succeed do more than dream great dreams and they do more than just inspire others to action. They follow tried and true processes. The inspiration is simply the "spoon full of sugar that makes the [processes more palatable]".

Copyright by Rick Allen and 30fold, Inc.

Is vision alone enough?

In Scripture we read, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." When God makes such a declaration I do not question it. I may inquire to make sure I fully understand it's meaning, but that's it.

However, over my years in business I have heard many (well intended)speakers extrapolate from that saying, though, and end up at a conclusion that experience tells me is not true. You may have heard these statements too. Things like,"if you just dream big enough it will come to pass." Or, "if you can dream it, you can do it." If this is so, then why are there so many dreamers who dreamed big, that do not see their dreams come to pass?

It is impossible to give a single answer that fits for each specific case. But I have consistently found a missing element, and I hope you can profit from knowing this as well. That element is process. To borrow a phrase from the TV series, Monk, "here's what happens".

Some people are more naturally process oriented than others, just like some are more naturally suited to cook, play piano, or hit home runs. They dream big, they either learn or devise processes that support that dream, and never think about the fact that those processes, as natural to them as breathing itself, were the support mechanisms that enabled their dreams, their success.

Others, those to whom those processes were totally unnatural, were just as excited as everyone else ... in the beginning. But as others move forward while they stayed behind, they were blind to the missing element that made the difference. By recognizing these people for the potential winners they can be, and by focusing on the right area, they will no longer have to watch success from the side lines.

You see, most of business success is not achieved in the excitement of the dream. Indeed, the motivation may come from there. But the actual success itself is derived from the often dull, routine,day-to-day hum-drum processes that must occur over and over. As an article I recently read mentioned, "a monkey could do my job". Yes,that is where success is achieved. And when we do it for the millionth time, and the fruit of that consistency rolls in, what once seemed a dull routine polishes up like a diamond in the rough.

Join me Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 9:30 PM eastern, 6:30 PM pacific where these same thoughts will play a key role in the development of a great business opportunity. On the internet at least, I can assure you, to many of us fail to heed this advice. All too often, when we get an email from one of our Christian friends we are far too eager to pass it along. We must all have a touch of news anchor in us. We want to be able to say, "remember, you heard it hear first!" Especially when it is one of those troubling emails that claim --they-- are going to ban Christian broadcasting or something equally unjust. It is true, Scripture teaches us that Christians will be persecuted in ends times. And no doubt we are close enough that we will begin to see more and more of that.

But in the case of emails that announce that there's a new bill to squash the gospel, or that this preacher or that is going to be banned form the air waves, we all need to remember the warning, and prove all things before we forward even a single message! We must remember that spreading untruth is as much a sin as if we made the lie up ourselves.

I personally believe Satan helps promote these emails. Rather than originating from honest Christians concerned about real issues, I am suspicious that non-believers start these just to make unsuspecting Christians look like fools. (and frankly, it works very well, very often) But you don't have to look like a fool. There are easy steps you can take to check if the substance of an email message is true. There are many sites on the net devoted to helping us verify the thousands of stories out there. I will provide a few of them here. The first is SNOPES, found at http://www.snopes.com.

SNOPES is often criticized in conservative Christian circles as being left-leaning, and I would tend to agree. The site keepers are a tad more liberal than my personal taste would prefer. But I still consider SNOPES a relatively reliable source. Remember, if you want absolute truth, the Bible is your only source. But for day to day verification of some current news or event we can use the Biblical principle of establishing facts in the mouth of two or three witnesses. So, for a corroboration or denial of these web-based traveling tidbits I usually go to Truth Or Fiction found at http://www.truthorfiction.com.

I have others in my bookmarks, but almost never go to them because these two resources have proven sufficient and reliable time after time.

So the next time you get an email that makes some claim about Dr. Dobson being banned, or a soda company removing God from the Pledge of Allegiance on their new can design, take your finger off the forward button, and turn your browser to websites that can help you verify those stories, and maintain your witness.

Copyright by Rick Allen and 30fold, Inc.

Rules of the "Email" Road

Our Online "Fetchin' Up"
If there is one ubiquitous lesson in the online world it is this: Everyone hates SPAM. Those who have been online long enough may even remember the day when people would actually seek out online email directories and list themselves, much like our phone numbers are listed in the phone book. Not today! We do everything in our power to stay our of directories and off of lists - well, except for social networks. But social networks are the domain of yet another new generation of Internet users. They grew up with SPAM. To them it is just a fact of life. The rest of us see it as a paralyzing social bane. That is, until we ourselves become online marketers.

Situational Ethics
The most right wing conservative Christians are tempted to SPAM once a portion of their income becomes dependent on reaching people on the Internet. Suddenly, the sellers of email harvesting tools and mass email programs are elevated from demons to saints, and the tools they sell find their way into our tool box.

Business By The Book
While the general import of this blog's title, "Business By The Book", refers to God's book, it goes without saying that staying in line with Scripture should generally keep us well within most laws, and the SPAM law is no exception here. It is the responsibility of everyone who enters into business online to become familiar with and obey SPAM laws. So the question becomes, "how do I build a big email list and still comply with the law?"

Starting Out
Everyone starts somewhere, and when it comes to building an email list, many begin with their own address book or inbox. It does seem natural, but this is the first place you want to begin practicing good online email ethics. First, be sure to separate your professional online life from your personal one. Don't use your personal email account for business. Have an email account that is business only. The best recommendation here is to purchase a domain of your own so your can have an email address that bears your business name. You will build your brand with every email message when you follow this simple practice. 30fold Domains is a great place to do this because for the already low price of a domain you also get a free email account and up to 100 email forwarding accounts!

Friends and Family
"So, can't I just add the people in my address book and my inbox to my subscription list?" No, not really. But if you have followed the advice above and distinguish your accounts, you certainly can send them a personal email to let them know how the family is, and what you are up to these days. In doing so, let them know if your new venture and invite them to join your email list. Also let them know what your new business address is so they can white-list it. You can even ask them to invite their friends and get the benefit of viral or social marketing. But do so in context of a personal email, not a thinly disguised marketing message. Let them know you'd like their help. And remember that this is a job for nimble fingers. You want to send these emails one at a time, not using a mass email program or with all their addresses stuffed into the "To" field.

A Signature By Any Other Name
In the "real world" a signature is a legally binding mark of identification. It is typically your name, even though it may not be legible. In the email world it can also include additional identifying information, such as phone number, your own email address, and perhaps a web address. Most email programs allow for automatically adding your signature to the bottom of each new email message you create. This may also be a good place to invite subscribers to your list.

Master (then Plaster) the Invitation
Once you go beyond your personal list, you must become more inventive. You must master the art of inviting. You need to consider all the reasons someone should join your list. Think about them. List them. Embellish them. The look for the best way to communicate that information. Once you have honed your invitation, "plaster it! What I mean is, be sure to put it in lots of (appropriate) places. Obviously, it should be a page on your website, with plenty of easy to follow links on other pages.

Naturally, you should also have a link to join your list on each email you send from your business account, so that when it gets forwarded, the new recipient can also easily join. You may also look for opportunities to have other people with lists to recommend your list, also featuring a handy "join" link. This touches the edge of another topic - "joint venture" partners. We'll talk about that in another post. But it is simply the idea that you recruit others into your efforts, and look for opportunities to help others in the same way when you find someone with good and useful information that you feel comfortable recommending.

Enticing Offers and Incentives
It is often helpful to give an added enticement to join your list. This can be almost anything, but it will work best if it is a) electronically deliverable and b) automated. The last thing you want to do is be successful getting lots of subscribers, then spending all your time fulfilling request for your free report, or whatever the incentive was. E-books and reports tend to be very popular, and both can be delivered in an automated fashion.

Something essential to understand when it comes to incentives and email lists is this. You can legally offer an incentive to a potential subscriber to join your list. You can ask others to invite people they know to join your list. But it is not legal to offer an incentive to others in order to get them to invite their friends. They have to be willing to do it because you asked and a) they like you, b) they trust you, c) they feel that you add value, d) they are married to your sister, or e) any combination of the first four reasons.

Comforting Assurances
Let potential subscribers know you will not abuse their trust. That can usually be embedded in language inside your privacy policy, but lift it out and say it in plain English, or the language of your target audience. Do not share your list with others. You may offer to add a invitation to someone else's list in your email, but never share or sell your list. A good, healthy list of people who want to hear from you is like money in the bank. If you give your account number away, your gold can easily disappear. Make sure you do a good job communicating what value membership in your list has. If it's nothing more than "buy my latest product," interest will quickly wane.

Once you have mastered the art of list-building, then simply do it regularly. Automate as much as possible, but be sure it gets done as a normal course of the business day. You should put nearly as much into building a good list as you do into marketing your product or service. In fact, you should actually think of it as your prime product or service. Think about this. You spend a dollar on an ad to draw someone who may look at your product or service once, then forget who you are. If you spent that same dollar on getting them to join your list, you can be there to remind them regularly of the benefits, and when their time to buy is right, last weeks newsletter will be fresh on their mind. So, yes, it is even worth spending advertising dollars on getting new list members.

Trusting Relationships
Throughout the process, remember that the most important thing you build is not a product. The most important thing you deliver is not a service. You must build strong, trusting relationships, and deliver value. if you do so you will profit today, and well into the future. The fruit of your labor will produce bounty year after year when you focus on building trust and building relationships, and delivering value. And as you do so, may you be blessed 30fold.

Copyright by Rick Allen and 30fold, Inc.

Game Face Video

Rick Allen of 30fold explains why it is vital for small business owners to put on their game face - to act and behave like an entrepreneur. This is a short lesson in how to not commit business suicide.

Copyright by Rick Allen and 30fold, Inc.

Game Face

One of the unique features of a home based business is that often, you never meet face to face with your customer. But it is just as important, perhaps even more important, that you always "put on your game face" each time you encounter your customer or prospect - be it through the telephone, email, or a live meeting. "Putting on your game face" means simply that you take on and project your entrepreneur image.

Entrepreneurs take charge

Entrepreneurs take responsibility

Entrepreneurs do not hide behind excuses, they step up and make things right

As Director of Field Operations at 30fold, I have had many opportunities to observe the interactions of business owners with their clients. One such conversation between a business owner and the customer went something like this. "I don't know what's wrong with those people. This is supposed to be a "turnkey" operation. I will try and see what I can do."

Put yourself in the customer's shoes. What are they probably thinking at that moment? "This person is not really in charge. I thought I was dealing with the business owner," is a likely conclusion. And the chances are high that they will not have a lot of confidence in you. The chances are slim that they will do business with you in the future.

Had this owner "put on their game face" they would have instilled in the customer the confidence that, although there was a problem, this business owner was going to take charge and fix it. The negative would have been turned into a positive. With only slightly different words the owner could have instilled confidence, gained trust, and cemented a relationship that would ensure customer retention.

So don't commit business suicide by pretending to be a co-victim of a situation. Rather, acknowledge the problem, be sure you totally understand the issue, and be sure that you have all the information needed to go back to your support resources and effect a timely remedy. By maintaining a business-like posture (putting on your game face) you will win the respect of your customers and colleagues, and be looked on as a true leader - a real entrepreneur.

Copyright by Rick Allen and 30fold, Inc.

<itunes:author /><itunes:subtitle>Game Face</itunes:subtitle><itunes:summary /><itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit><itunes:block>no</itunes:block><itunes:duration>00:00:00</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords />
